Outdoor Adventures’ introduction to paddle strokes and braces class is designed to develop solid, safe paddling skills. Each class begins with an equipment overview; boat fitting, boat nomenclature, and paddle nomenclature. Your instructors will then cover appropriate stretching for kayaking; spray skirt orientation, beach or dock launching, a wet exit, strokes and braces. Our instruction is based on the ACA’s (American Canoe Association’s) proven paddle stroke techniques: the paddler’s box, the J-Lean, forward stroke, reverse sweep strokes, low and high braces, and draw strokes. This is the perfect introductory class for those interested in sea kayaking, white water, inflatable or sit-on-top kayaking and is also great for stroke refinement. Class fee includes boat, spray skirt, life jacket, and paddle. Minors must be accompanied by an adult.

Kayaking in whitewater can be a thrill, but there are some very real dangers that need to be prepared for. Getting some training is one of the best things you can do for yourself and those you boat with if you want to keep yourselves safe while out playing. For those who do not have the time for a 3-day course, this is an intensive one-day look at kayak rescue. You will learn about basic rope techniques, rescue jackets, group organization and much more.
